Lacie Button Caps

A new hat for the something diane made shop. And just in time for the cooler weather!

These caps are the just the right amount of dainty with the lace design with the added sass of a button. I LOVE them!

They come in sizes from Newborn - 6 months, 6 - 12 months, 12 months - 3 years, 3 - 10 years, and 10 years - Adult. They come custom in any color combo you want.

Want to see them now? Ok!

Aren't they adorable? And you should see them on :)

Added Bonus: If you live in the West Michigan area, Heilman's Nuts & Confections (1804 S. Westnedge Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49008) has 25 of them on hand for instant purchase!

Something for the Boys

Creating items for boys is a bit of challenge for me, and I am not sure why. I LOVE boy items, they are just so darn cute.

So I have come up with a few "additions" that you can add to a beanie, cocoon, etc. if you need something for a little boy (or two).

I am now offering:

Turtles
Worms
Fish (pattern from http://www.etsy.com/shop/everlaughter)
Football
Softball/Baseball
Basketball
Star (not shown below)

And of course the ever popular flower for the girlies too.

And I am up for the challenge if someone is looking for something else too!

Here you can see them on my Basic Beanie (now available in my Etsy shop)

What do you think? Which one is your favorite??

One Year Ago (ish)

One year ago (August 31, 2010) I took a leap of faith opening an Etsy shop. I was scared and nervous. Scared that others wouldn't see my vision. Nervous that my items weren't "cute" enough and whole list of other items. Would I be accepted? Would it flop?

And boy was I wrong to doubt it.

This year I can barely put into words. It was so AMAZING. I met so many awesome bloggers and customers. Got so much great advice about how to run a shop. And most of all learned so much.

Now with something diane made going into its 2 year I have set goals for myself but I am not going to be hard on myself if I don't make them. Because this business is unlike any other, you never know where it is going to take you. It may take you a totally opposite direction than you had hoped but in the end it was the right direction all along.

I can't thank each and everyone of you enough for your support, purchases, kind words, and so much more. It has been a year of so many blessings.

An Amazing Project

First of all, I am SO sorry for my lack of posting/updating. This job hunt thing is taking way longer than I had anticipated and throw in a wedding trip in the mix, and there went a month. I promise that I have some exciting things coming up (some I can't quite share yet - but they will come!). Pst... did you see what is going on over on my Facebook page? :)

BUT the real reason of this post is to share an AWESOME project. Betsy from The Dainty Daisy has a beautiful and generous heart and came up with an idea to help out families that have micro-preemie babies. She has recently known someone closely to lose their child, a child born way to soon, and left this world too soon. So as a way of honoring that child (Rosie) and all children, the project is called Rosie's Cozies (so cute right!).

On her blog she posted the pattern for teeny tiny hats. The goal is to shower Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI (my almost hometown) with tons and tons of beanies for their little ones. They will accept any size hat from preemie to adult.

It is such an awesome idea and I am so honored to be a part of this. I made 4 hats last night :) No baby big or small should be allowed to NOT have an adorable beanie!

Please if you are willing make up some hats and send them to Betsy, her address is on the blog. If you can't crochet they will also take donations for the families that are there. And above else, pray. Pray that this project is a success, Pray for the families that are their now, and Pray for those who are yet to be born that they remain in the womb until they are full-term.

Thank you all!

Friday Favorites - Michigan Style!

Hello!

I am LONG overdue for a Friday Favorites post and I do apologize for that! The quitting my job, move, and surprise trip (thanks hubby!!) to Michigan has made life a little chaotic. But no worries, I am back and have some awesome ideas lined up for the next couple weeks of Friday Favorites.

But with my recent trip to Michigan, I decided this week to show off a little of my home state!

Enjoy :)

1. Michigan Beaches

[source]

How can you not look at that and see heaven on earth? The white sand, and blue waters of the Great Lakes HAVE to be one of my favorites. I didn't get to make it to Lake Michigan on this recent trip but I have SO many fond memories there from my childhood, to my 1st date with my hubby, and winter trips to see all the frozen ice.

2. University of Michigan football

[source]

Yes, the blue and maize does flow through my blood :)

3. Fredrick Meijer Gardens

[source]

A paradise of sculptures and beautiful landscape. It is the perfect place to spend an afternoon just wandering, getting lost in the moment and feel of the gardens.

4. Michigan's Upper Peninsula

[source]

Michigan's Upper Peninsula is one of the most gorgeous places on earth (I am a little bias I know!). But from the flowing waterfalls, to the wildlife, to the places that are seemingly untouched it is perfect. The hubby and I have spent lots of time of there and it is the stillness that just captures your heart and makes you come back, over and over again.

5. The Mitten State Shirts

[source]

If you live in Michigan (or don't) you NEED to have one of these shirts. The hubby and I have a few each and they are awesome! Not only are the design, unique and funny but the shirts wash great as well!

So was that convincing enough? :)

Well.... I am giving two of them away! Both are gender neutral and are great for newborn photos.

A Small Break

So first of all Friday Favorites is going to be a small (probably month) break due to some big life changes that are happening around here.

And my shop will probably be closed as well for about 1-2 weeks. I will let you all know the official dates very soon.

BUT don't worry I have lots of giveaways lined up for the month so while I am packing and moving you all can win some great Something Diane Made stuff! Sound good? Good :)

And... if you didn't catch that subtle hint... WE ARE MOVING!! My husband has accepted a new job and it is AMAZING! We are so blessed and thankful for it. It kind of came up out of the blue and is going to make for a very fast move to a brand new city but we are BEYOND thrilled.

What an amazing God we serve :)

Friday Favorites - The Dainty Daisy Style

Today is the final week of guest bloggers for Friday Favorites (sniff!) but we are going out with a bang with the wonderful Betsy from The Dainty Daisy!

Betsy is an "old" friend (we have the same hometown and high school) and a fellow crocheter. You HAVE to see the adorable items she makes for little ones, almost makes me want to have one :) But truly, she is awesome and very talented!

Hi all! Big thanks to Diane for asking me to be a part of Friday
Favorites! I have never guest posted before, so this is way fun
and exciting!

Much of my favorites right now tend to be surrounding food and
maternity items. I am 12 weeks pregnant and I am a bit focused
on all things pregnancy, but I will try to keep it to a minimum :-)

First, I fell in love with these last week. Maternity
leggings. Holy amazingness. I don't tend to be one that
likes a lot of elastic around my waist to begin with. This tends
to be my problem area and elastic seems to emphasize the love handles
making them not so lovely. I have learned to like leggings, but
fell in love with these! Nothing like a big ol' panel to avoid
the elastic squeeze. Plus, the bloated belly loves it too :-)

My next favorite I have been loving is the Burger King Original
Chicken Sandwich. Yes, I know, for all of you health nuts out
there this is terrible and offers very little nutrition, however, my
taste buds dance with joy when I eat one! I have always loved
this sandwich since I was a kid and I am so glad it is still sticking
around. It may be my all time favorite fast food sandwich.
Yummers!

I am also loving the thought of this in my yard this summer.
Michigan has been a nasty mess of rain and wind the past couple of
weeks, so I have been dreaming of flowers and sunshine. I love
getting the flowers for my house each year. This year will be
extra fun because we have a new area to landscape in our backyard.

Next, I am loving this color scheme. We are in the process of
finishing our basement and I am thinking I am going to have to paint
the walls gray and add in some yellow accents! I can't wait to
play around!

Lastly, I am loving my Thirty One bags. I don't tend to spend
much on bags and purses, but this was the best place to put my
money! I have gone to two parties now and have not been able to
resist 5 of their bags! I got one for my crochet items, one for
a diaper bag, a thermal tote for picnics, a laundry tote, and an
adorable purse! I have become obsessed! Good quality and
adorable patterns. LOVE THIS STUFF!

Thanks so much to Diane for having me! This was fun and I always
LOVE sharing things that I LOVE!

Thanks Betsy and all the guest bloggers!

In case you missed the guest editions here they are again...

Next week you are stuck with me again for Friday Favorites :)

Friday Favorites - Fingerprints on the Fridge Style

Happy Friday! And means it is another round of Friday Favorites!! YES :)

This week we have the lovely (and so comical) Rachelle from Fingerprints on the Fridge. Her and I are "old" friends - meaning we have the same hometown and High School but didn't connect until recently with our passion for crafting!

So enjoy!

Hey ya'll! So happy to be here sharing my favsies!

Thanks to Diane for letting me crash today :)

First and foremost I've come across my FAVORITE conditioner/styling product.

Organix.

Simply put: Love. You must try them for yourself to understand it though.

Second up as klassy (with a K) as it is. Mountain Dew. When I think of Mountain dew I think of that 20/20 episode called Mountain Dew mouth and all those sad kids with no teeth. But, I need it. Maybe I shouldn't talk about it, I could get the shakes. ;)

Pintrest.

Holy guacamole there's not enough time in the day for Pintrest. I can only look right now because I need an invite. SOMEONE invite me, seriously. We can make Bff necklaces and everything.

American Eagle Jeans.

Just got a new pair {in a whole size smaller, whoop to the whoop} and they fit ALL of my qualifications in jeans.

1. They cover my bum.

2. Because of said bum, most jeans thighs are too big for my thighs and look baggy, these AREN'T.

3. Flare, but not a giant flare that covers my whole foot but not small like a boot cut.

Clearly I'm picky. But the artist jeans fit like a glove. Thanks AE.

Sandstone Cove.

After 40000 samples of paint to redo the kitchen, I have found.the.one. And, it's love. I'm not only painting the kitchen but the dining room, entry way and hallways with this. It's a serious favorite. The perfect neutral but not too pink, but a touch of gray in some lights. Love it!

Well that's it, thanks so much Diane for having me! It was fun!

Thanks Rachelle! See didn't I tell you she was lovely :)

Next week is our final round of guest bloggers (sniff) and we end it with a fellow crocheter and "old" friend Betsy from The Dainty Daisy!!

Have a great weekend you all! (I am a southern but can resist the y'all since I still believe in my heart that I am a northern, don't judge :) )

Joyful Library Project

The blogging community is such a great place to "meet" new people, find creative ideas, and to promote great causes. The later is what I am doing today. I have the privilege of working with Danielle from Take Heart on her 25th birthday (today!) and the Joyful Library Project.

She is a total sweetheart and giving AWAY on her birthday! She has TONS of great items that are up for grabs and the only requirement is to buy a book for the Joyful Library Project.

The Joyful Library Project provides books to hospitals PICU sections so that families can read to their sick kids. You can read more about the beginning and the "Why" of the cause here.

There has been an Amazon list created for the books they are requested and you can purchase straight from there and the books will be shipped to the hospital. SO easy :) Click here for the list

Remember this puff cap I showed off on Facebook the other day?

Well it is up for grabs! Please head on over to Take Heart and support a great cause!
